COVENANT WAY / OUR CHURCH

The Church We Seek to Build

We seek to build a church that is not increasingly complicated, but increasingly faithful to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We desire to be a community where God's Word is faithfully taught, where believers live in obedience to Scripture, and where lives are transformed by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

We value faithful discipleship over numerical growth and genuine godliness over outward religious performance.

These commitments describe the ministry we seek to build as Covenant Way Church prepares to launch. We share them as intentions for our future community, with respect for churches whose traditions differ.

What You Will Always Find at Covenant Way

A Community Rooted in Scripture and the Gospel

  1. Faithful Teaching of God's Word

    Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16–17; Acts 20:27

We are committed to faithfully teaching the whole counsel of God's Word rather than reshaping Scripture to fit personal opinions or cultural trends. We seek to equip believers to read, understand, and discern God's Word for themselves.

  2. The Gospel of Jesus Christ at the Center

    Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:2; Ephesians 2:8–9

We proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the forgiveness of sins, and salvation by grace through faith. Every ministry should ultimately point people to Christ.

  3. Lives Transformed Through Obedience to God's Word

    Scripture: James 1:22; Romans 12:1–2

We believe spiritual maturity involves more than biblical knowledge. By the grace of the Holy Spirit, we seek to put God's Word into practice in our families, workplaces, and daily lives.

  4. A Family That Loves and Cares for One Another

    Scripture: John 13:34–35; Galatians 6:2

We do not view people as numbers or as workers needed to maintain church programs. We seek to share one another's joys and burdens and to practice genuine love and care.

  5. Sincere Prayer Beyond Religious Formality

    Scripture: Matthew 6:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:17

We do not measure spiritual maturity by attendance at prayer meetings held at particular times. We encourage believers to cultivate sincere prayer throughout daily life and to pray faithfully for one another.

  6. Faith Passed Across Generations and Languages

    Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Psalm 78:4–7

We seek to pass the faith from one generation to the next, helping children and young adults personally know and confess Jesus Christ. We desire Korean and English to serve as bridges for the gospel rather than barriers between generations.

  7. Holiness and Repentance

    Scripture: 1 Peter 1:15–16; 1 John 1:9

We take sin seriously while remembering that our hope rests in God's grace. We encourage one another to repent, grow in holiness, and live faithfully before the Lord.

  8. Making Genuine Disciples of Jesus Christ

    Scripture: Matthew 28:19–20; Luke 9:23

We value the spiritual growth of genuine disciples over attendance numbers. We seek to equip every believer to follow Jesus, deny self, and grow in Christlike character.

  9. The Gospel and Love Reaching Beyond the Church

    Scripture: Acts 1:8; Matthew 5:16

We seek to equip believers to share the gospel and demonstrate Christ's love in their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities.

  10. Faithful Worship and the Sacraments

    Scripture: John 4:23–24; Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26

We value faithful worship over elaborate programs or emotional experiences. Through the preaching of Scripture, prayer, praise, baptism, and the Lord's Supper, we seek to worship God according to His Word.

Practices and Expectations We Choose to Set Aside to Focus on the Gospel

Some church practices are valuable traditions, but not every tradition is a biblical requirement. We seek to avoid placing unnecessary burdens on believers and instead focus on faithful worship, biblical discipleship, and lives transformed by the gospel.

  1. No Required Weekly Church Lunch

We do not organize a weekly church lunch as a regular obligation. Instead, we enjoy simple refreshments after worship and encourage members to share meals with family, neighbors, and friends. Special fellowship meals may still be arranged when appropriate.

  2. No Status-Based Titles in Everyday Fellowship

We respect the biblical offices of pastors, elders, and deacons, but we do not use church titles to establish social rank. In everyday fellowship, we encourage believers to relate to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

  3. No Required Early-Morning Prayer Meetings

We do not require or organize regular early-morning prayer services. Praying at dawn can be a meaningful spiritual practice, but it is not the measure of a believer's godliness. We encourage sincere prayer while also respecting rest, work, family responsibilities, and individual circumstances.

  4. No Requirement to Identify Yourself on Offering Envelopes

We do not require names on offering envelopes. Giving is an act of gratitude and worship before God, not a way to gain recognition from others. Anonymous giving is respected, while appropriate records can be provided for donors who request contribution statements or tax documentation.

We seek to build a church where each person grows as a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ, rather than measuring success primarily by the number of people who gather.

A church where believers learn God's Word faithfully, obey Scripture, and pursue holy lives through the transforming grace of the Holy Spirit.

A church where people love one another as brothers and sisters, pass the faith to the next generation, and reflect the light of the gospel in the world.

This is the church we seek to build at Covenant Way Church.
